Quail Point Hunt Club, Zamora, was the location for the California Sportsmen Shoot-Out, held on Sunday, March 29, 2009. Twenty ardent shooters gathered at the club – some, cronies of radio show host Sep Hendrickson – some, listeners to the show. Weather was great…wind was not! It howled, but it didn’t shut down the activities.
The shoot started in the fields, with the hunters and their dogs, in assigned areas, seeking hard-flying chuckars. Almost all planted birds were located and the guys had a great time. A most memorable moment came when Austin Erck shot his first bird – in the company of his dad Garry, grandfather Ray, and Jed, his dog. Austin recently completed the Hunter Safety Course and Ray presented him with a .410 shotgun as a memento!
The group then continued on to the 5-stand for target practice. Here, shooting expert Billy Gianquinto offered advice as they took turns shooting clay pigeons. USA Fishing.com…Mike Augney’s sons proved to be pretty deadly!
When everybody had enough, they adjourned to the clubhouse where Maggie served a hamburger lunch, courtesy of California Sportsmen Radio Show. All in all, a good time was had by the attendees who are looking forward to next year’s event!
