On Sunday, February 1, 2009, a few days before Pardee Lake opened to the public, a large contingent of bass pros and outdoor writers gathered for the Second Annual Media Day. Excitement ran high as the prospect of catching a record-breaking smallmouth bass was on the minds of all!
The event was sponsored by Pardee Lake Recreation owners Kerry & Richard Cooper and Jackson Rancheria Casino and Hotel's Bo Marks, and was highlighted on Ultimate Bass Radio Show (KHTK 1140AM Sacramento, Saturdays 5-6 AM), and California Sportsmen Radio (KHTK Saturdays 6-8 AM). A contest ran on both shows for several weeks and out of the nearly 1,000 entries, four guys won the opportunity to spend time with a bass pro in his boat. Winners were – Randy Walker, Art Valero, Tracy Patton and Ed Schneider, Jr.
Bass pros in attendance were: Skeet Reese, Bub Tosh, Greg Guiterrez, RJ Bennett, Robert Lee, Byron Velvick, Gary Dobyns, Randy McAbee, Dean McDaniel, Russ Graves, Mark Lassange, Alan Fong, Mark Blanton, Gary Jones and Kent Brown.
The writers were: Bill Mays, Dan O’Sullivan, JD Richey, Terry Battisti, Tony Stoltz, Alan Bonslett, Cal Shew, John Johnson, Dan Bacher and Craig Gottwalls.
Also in attendance from Department of Fish and Game: Neal Manji and Kyle Murphy. CIFFI's Chairman of the Board Rod Browning, President Garry Erck and Secretary Wendy Carrington were also in attendance.
The weather was terrific, the hamburgers were great, and the event was successful – except for one thing… the TROUT were biting…the bass weren’t too hot. So…there’s always next year!
